Hi, I'm Reggie, and I admit that I am a very big boy! I've grown into the biggest darn old thing you've ever seen. But hey, there's just more of me to love. I have a very unique look, and I was fairly successful with the ladies in the (ahem) BEFORE time. But people are different, and my really brilliant cinnamon and nutmeg coloring and wide face and bright eyes make me look a little intimidating. I'm like the Hulk Hogan of the cat world!
I'm the Reggie Man! Regiman J. Cat. One day, I was out looking for a female and a meal, and I ran across this spot that had CANNED food. Wow, that was great. Now it's true, great cats travel on great bellies. So I stopped. And came back the next day. And the next. Then one day, I found myself at the vet's, where they found out that I am FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). It's not a death sentence. In fact, cats with FIV often live as long as any long-lived old cat.
My foster mom said there's too many foster cats already in the house, and since I do have FIV, it would probably be best if I was adopted into a single cat home or a home with another FIV+ cat. Sometimes I don't have good enough manners to be with cats that don't have FIV. If I were to bite them, they could get my disease.
One of my favorite things is to lie by a window and watch the birds and squirrels outside. And since my foster mom took me in, I've discovered that I like to be petted - a lot. And scratched, especially on my big old stray Tom head. I have a lot of questions though. Why do the people who come and pet me stop petting me? Why does my dish get empty? Talk about the questions of the universe! Where do the treats go?
Would you like a really huge boy to come live with you and hop on your lap all the time and you'd be permitted to pet and cuddle me? If so, fill out an application on my webpage at www.happycatadoptions.org and you can make an arrangment to visit me to see if I'm the love animal of your heart. And I think I am. I love to cuddle, cuddle, cuddle. I'm not very playful, but I really like to have someone to keep me company all the time.
Since Reggie is FIV+, he will need twice-yearly exams and probably, frequent dentals and more dental care.
About FIV: Feline immune defieciency virus is transmitted primarily by a positive cat who delivers a deep puncture wound to a negative cat. This is not the type of bite that cats deliver when playing hard or when angry with their friends. Dusty is asymptomatic, and can live as long as a negative cat, and possibly without symptoms. This stage can be treated with supplements, and there are two terrific Yahoo news lists which offer for FIV cat owners current information and support. If you're confused about FIV or want more information, please contact us and we'll be glad to send you information or talk to you. Many cat owners of FIV+ cats keep them with their negative cats. Since the transmission usually happens when males are either fighting over females or when mating (the deep wound from the male to the female), cats which have been altered generally do not deliver this wound.
